Once a year, when the wind blows from both the East and the West at the same time, the Sandman puts on his finest suit, made of silk from the silk moths that live in his personal Mulberry tree.
Like this Mulberry tree, the silk that comes from these moths is of a particularly shiny silver colour that can only be rivalled by the Evening Star herself.
The Sandman’s suit is very special, for it is covered in small pockets that blow open and catch the Sand that the Sandman uses for his Dreams.
Floating on the winds he catches all the Sand he can until he becomes as round as the Moon. Then he takes the Sand to his workshop where he melts the Sand into glass and uses his glassmakers’ tools to turn it into Dreams of all shapes and sizes.
To create as many Dreams as he can, the Sandman uses only a little bit of Sand per Dream. This makes the Dreamglass as thin as a soap bubble and just as colourful, if a bit more glittery.
It also makes the Dreams fragile. That is why, when you wake, the Dream bursts into millions of tiny pieces and you forget nearly all of the wonderful adventures the Sandman gifted you.
But sometimes, when you close your eyes again and snuggle in as you decide to stay in bed just a little bit longer, you might feel a few grains of sand tickling your feet. Can you find any?
