In the middle of the ocean, far, far away - the furthest away from land, as a matter of fact - you will find a spot called Point Nemo. Supposedly, this place is so incredibly remote that sometimes the people who are closest to it are the astronauts in the International Space Station passing by, miles and miles overhead.
Because it is so remote, Point Nemo is sometimes used as a crash site for spacecraft that have outlived their usefulness, turning the area into what is called a spacecraft cemetery. With all the space debris floating around in the dark and endless deep, the place would probably seem quite eerie, if not for two things: a gigantic walrus and the old man who lives on top of his head.
Now NASA and other space agencies do not know about the old man. They would, of course, have him removed otherwise. But they have never seen him before. You see, the walrus has been asleep for many, many years, floating around on the surface and thus creating the perfect spot for an old hermit to distance himself from society and enjoy the peace and quiet.
Almost perfect. Because the walrus snores, loudly. And with each of the walrus’s blubbering and wheezing snores, its whiskers shake ever so violently, causing water to splash up between them, almost like a geyser erupting cold water, which would soak the poor hermit to the bone.
One day the man had had enough and decided to build himself a little tent out of driftwood, space debris, and seaweed and from that day forward he stayed dry and warm.
From space it merely seems as though the walrus wears a funny, little hat, to the amusement of the astronauts looking at him from afar. However, any creature who passes by will tell you that it looks very fashionable and they are now considering becoming ‘a hat person’ themselves. What do you think? Will you give it a try?
